Historical styles

a real Blast from the Past!

My speciality is historical clothing - constructed as closely to the original garments as possible, using the authentic fabric and techniques whenever I can. Basing my research upon surviving examples, museum pieces, contemporary artwork and written accounts of the time, I can advise you upon what type of clothing is accurate for your chosen era.

Hand-sewing is possible - please see the photograph of the 1810 Regency gown in the Gallery - but of course is time consuming and expensive. It is possible to combine machine sewing of long seams with hand-finishing, so that no machine stitching is visible and even eyelets can be hand-sewn, although they are stronger than they are beautiful!

Even if you decide that - given your budget or even your priorities - you would rather not have completely authentic fabric, we can use some of the high-quality modern synthetic taffetas or brocades to give an accurate appearance. I would add, however, that synthetic fabrics are never as comfortable as natural fibres and therefore are less suitable for repeated wear or in hotter weather.

All of these options can be discussed at a no-obligation first meeting, arranged at your convenience or by email or telephone, so please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
